Emergency Planning

Douglas County Health Department is actively involved in the emergency planning process for our community. The Local Public Health Emergency Plan is an ongoing manual which is re- viewed and updated regularly. The manual uses an “all hazards” approach to emergency man- agement with separate annexes devoted to each aspect of the emergency (such as surveillance, communications, mass care, etc.). The most recent addition is an annex on pandemic influenza, keeping in mind the unusual considerations involved in this public health event. DCHD staff attends conferences and training sessions on NIMS, ICS and bioterrorism events, CERT train- ing on communications and public information, and we attend regional and statewide exercises. DCHD maintains regular communication with our local Emergency Management office and we are involved in the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
