Health Screenings

·         Lead: Due to the number of older homes and buildings in the county, lead testing is provided to children ages one to five.

·         Cholesterol:  As funding is available cholesterol screenings are offered to residents at no charge. A screening includes triglycerides, LDL, HDL, glucose, and ratio. Health educators are available to review results with participants and to provide education about how positive lifestyle choices can impact results.

·         Blood Pressure & Blood Sugar:  Blood pressure screenings are available in the lobby during business hours. On the first Thursday of each month a staff member goes to the Red Bud Senior Housing Community Room and the Ava Community Center to provide blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. On the third Thursday staff goes to the Ava Community Center to provide blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.

·         Body Mass Index/Weight:  BMI screenings are available in health education during regular office hours if the equipment is not being utilized outside the building. The Tanita 2000 is taken to various public events to provide both screening and education. A certified scale is available in the lab area and can be used by the public when not being used for a clinic.

·         Tuberculosis: TB testing is done on Mondays and Tuesdays with results read on Thursdays and Fridays. No appointment necessary.

·         STD Testing:  Confidential testing is done at DCHD for sextually transmitted diseases on a daily basis as staff is available.  Testing can be performed for HIV, syphillis, chlamydia and gonorrhea.
